Posturology

The postural system of the human body receives signals from several structures, including the central and peripheral nervous systems, eyes, feet, skin, muscles, joints and also the stomatognathic system (occlusal system and tongue) and the inner ear.

The Central Nervous System uses this information to gain awareness of body position and to program movements in the surrounding space.

When a problem develops, the body tries to compensate in any way it can, such as lifting a shoulder, rotating the pelvis, tilting the head, or adopting scoliotic postures.

When the compensations are no longer able to correct the problem adequately, the first symptoms and signs of pathology appear, which can be considered alarm bells.

Among the most common symptoms can be found headaches, neuralgia and stiff neck (also known as cervical), chewing and occlusion defects, back pain, lumbago, pain in the shoulders, arms, knees or ankles.

In addition, concentration difficulties, reading difficulties, fine motor incoordination, joint clicks and more may appear. All these factors subtly affect the quality of life and, consequently, the psyche and mood of people.

Posturology is a multidisciplinary discipline that acts on different levels. The doctor who specializes in this field integrates concepts from ophthalmology, neurology, dentistry, physiatry and otolaryngology to formulate a comprehensive diagnosis and set treatment priorities. The goal is to turn off those alarm bells mentioned earlier as soon as possible.
