Cleaning of baby teeth, when should I begin?
Question:
There are obvious traces of tartar on my baby’s teeth. How can I fix it, having my baby 15 months?
Answer:
From birth to 6 months
Clean the baby’s mouth gently with a damp gauze after feedings. Ask your pediatrician or pedodontist if a fluoride supplement is considered appropriate, especially if it was not taken during pregnancy. Try to regularize eating habits as much as possible.
6 to 18 months
The first milk teeth are born; a follow-up visit is recommended. Together with the first teeth, the first toothbrush must also appear, which must be small and with soft bristles; brushing should take place after each meal and before putting them to bed.
From 18 months onwards
Follow the periodic check-ups with the pedodontist. Start using toothpaste only when the child can rinse his mouth on his own. Take great care with oral hygiene: getting used to them from an early age may seem like a sacrifice, but it is the most effective way to ensure that they continue to do it on their own afterwards. At about three years of age, also have a check-up by an orthodontist.
